Software Quality Engineer – ABB

Are you looking for an entirely fresh challenge in software process development? One that offers you a unique opportunity to shape the future development of key platforms that are set to enable genuine change here and around the world?

Tasks
As our software quality engineer, you will lead pioneering work in the definition and implementation of software development processes that will be critical to further improve our innovative modular software platform. You will lead ABB’s Global Process Team for software development, managing quality assurance activities such as change control and risk assessments in co-ordination with team leaders. You will also manage the global validation of software prior to launch, including scheduling, budgeting, and process optimization.

You will be expected to build a large network, internally within ABB and externally with contacts worldwide such as developers, project managers, quality controllers, and service agents, with whom you will maintain continuous, long-term dialogue that builds customer trust. Your excellent product knowledge will need to be matched by your drive to achieve outstanding customer experience.

Your profile
You have an MSc degree in computer science, electronics or similar. A proven track record in agile software development and related processes is required, and experience of embedded real-time systems is preferred. You currently work at a company with a comprehensive software offering, and one not necessarily in sectors where ABB is active. Fluent English is required, and although not essential, competency in German would be advantageous.

As an individual, you are driven and determined. You have a strong customer and quality focus, you are adept at change management, and you are confident about proposing solutions to others to achieve results.

Functional area
You will be part of ABB Robotics in Västerås. We develop, manufacture and market robots and associated control systems, software, arc welding products, tracks and motor packages. Our bases are in Västerås, Jönköping and the Gothenburg area in Sweden. Over 90% of our production is exported and our customers include all major auto manufacturers. The auto industry and its sub suppliers and to an increasing extent general industry, such as the food industry, are automating their production with robots. Welding, machine tending, materials management, grinding, packaging and assembly are the most common applications. Our robots and robotics are sold via local ABB companies and via independent systems integrators and OEM companies – companies we call our Partners. The unit has 700 employees.
